Thou Shalt Not Kill [A Bat]!

No comments: Links to this post

Well, in the UK and some other countries, Bats are protected by law. You'd be committing a CRIMINAL offence if you;
1. Deliberately capture, injure or kill a bat
2. Intentionally or recklessly disturb a bat in its roost or deliberately disturb a group of bats
3. Damage or destroy a bat roosting place (even if bats are not occupying the roost at the time)
4. Possess or advertise/sell/exchange a bat (dead or alive) or any part of a bat
5. Intentionally or recklessly obstruct access to a bat roost

The relevant applicable legislations include;

England Once Had A Gay King

Right up to 1967, Homosexuality was still a crime in England. In 1957, just 10 years before that, the story was awful. But that year (1957), the Report of the Departmental Committee on Homosexual Offences and Prostitution (Wolfenden report) overseen by Sir John Wolfenden, the chairman of the committee was published. By this time a series of well-known men, including Lord Montagu, Michael Pitt-Rivers and Peter Wildeblood, have been convicted of homosexual offences. But the story was different approximately 800 years before that.

As the first Prince of Wales, King Edward II, was besotted with his court servant, the1st Earl of Cornwall,

[UK] Heat Survival Strategies

No comments: Links to this post
There's no doubt the heat in the UK this week is worth a current affairs discussion. Of course, if it's affecting the NHS and the health of people, the question should be how to minimize that unwelcome effect.

As someone who suffers one of the mildest reaction to the heat (solar urticaria), and having worked in public health encouraging prevention and minimal use of healthcare, I have also developed a few tactics on reducing my suffering while being able to go about my day business. So here are my approaches and feel free to add to it if you have [a] different idea/s. Note: some of the points may not apply to you.

Today, I just wondered if anyone who hates Whites (or the West) because of slavery and colonialism in Africa also hates Blacks (the slaves' ancestors) for selling their own kinsmen. Selling once' own family is what I find to be worse cruelty. It must have greatly influenced the way slaves were treated on the other side the oceans.

Obama & Biden: We're cool
Once his vice president took the bull by the horn and announced his opinion on marriage equality, it was clear that President Obama faced a very delicate dilemma - he would either agree with Joe Biden or sack him.

Joe Biden's public declaration of support for equality could have been a coup. It came as from a man who is suffocated but trying to keep the peace. Mr. Biden can wait no more; no matter the cost. So he bursted;

Politics; Are Electorates Disillusioned or Disaffected?

Over the past week, we saw elections happen in some European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Greece and Italy. With all these comes the very pillars of elections; the reaction of the electorates.

The media is awash with electorates' disillusionment. In reality, electorates do not just feel let down but swindled. With the gap between rich and poor wider than the oceans, governments are blamed for the greed seen in the financial sector where remunerations and earnings are in millions. With this comes hatred and disconnection towards every earnings considered ridiculous, be it in the private sector, public service or for entrepreneurs too.
