Where is the Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Bill?

As we continue complacent, I wonder if we ever remember that the fight against the devilish Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda proposed by David Bahati MP is not yet won. In fact, 'winning' is a far cry to where we are at the moment.

My biggest worry therefore is what would happen next.

At the last time the monster reared its head and roared, it nearly bit off our heads. We all fought hard, through petitions, lobbying, letters, protests, campaigns, and even the guys on the ground in Uganda attended parliament. Yet, with all that, what we were able to obtain was to calm the monster. We, unfortunately did not kill it. That leaves that Bill potent.

That makes me wonder; isn’t the monster still alive and hale and hearty? It is indeed. And in its time of incubation, would it come back much stronger or weaker? If all the ammunition we unleashed the last time did little to send it to its grave, what more do we have up our sleeves?

It is time to think and re-arm. We should not sit complacent and

Is Terrorism Only Synonymous With Islam?

Anders Behring Breivik
Over the weekend, Europe witnessed yet another mass terrorism and waste of tens of young lives in Norway. As the frantic rush for safety began in Oslo that morning, all suspicion yet again focused on the usual suspects – Islamic terrorists. But this time, the suspicion is wrong.

It is wrong for all reasons, sensible or not. Thus that suspicion is only likable to the unguarded killing of Osama bin Laden; to the mass arrests of Asian-looking young men in the aftermath of 9/11; to the stop-and-search assault on young black men in the UK in the early 2000s; to the comparing of HIV to only gay men.
Because when the authorities and individuals exclusively accuse a particular sect of the society of an issue or even worse, assign blame to that group for an issue, the result is usually what we witnessed in Norway over the weekend.

Since the September 11 attack on the twin towers in America, the Western world’s Security and Intelligence has focused all its energy on the Middle East and made Islam the culprit.

The outcome of these stereotyping is that real dangers happen right under the nose of the authorities. It is because since terrorism is expected to come from a particular side of society, other parts of it not included henceforth goes free.

Phone Hacking, The Entire British Tabloid Could Be Complicit

In 2007, it started in the financial sector with a run on Northern Rocks. Analysts then told us it was first of such in over a century; but it was to bring the entire sector into public scrutiny, disregard and mistrust. It instigated a review, enquiry and a change that is yet to be seen. Believe me, it will never.

Fast-forward two years down the line, the Members of Parliament (MPs) who were in the fore-front of chastising and lay out new rule the Bankers would operate by, were found foul of the same disappointing mess. They have been pilfering from the purse, although in a smaller scale in comparison and had been using it wastefully like the bankers. What with Moats, mortgages, travels, dinnings, etc?

Again, like the financial sector, as their law-enforcers the MPs became mired in the mud of their own fouls, the review, enquiry and change is halfway done. And believe me, it will never go any further.
