Are The Lib Dems A Bunch Of Opportunists?

No comments: Links to this post

As has been established, the Liberal Democrats were desperate to be in government; any government, if just to have a taste. But who would blame them after about 60 years in the wilderness... And having a very subtly ambitious leader was to get them to that but now in a context they probably arent enjoying.

Before the general election concluded, the expectations were that the Liberal Democrats would only do deal with Labour in the event of a hung parliament. That traditional thinking and expectation was quite made in the thinking and philosophy than the Conservatives is always opposite.

But for anyone who had seriously studied Nick Clegg in the run up to the election would have noticed that his opportunistic and ambitious zeal was bare. Once he started the 'injury lawyer style' advert, it was no arguing that he was desperate. That was confirmed when he feebly made 'pledges' on tuition fees.

However, in politics what is clear is that at the heat of it, the electorates always go with the one who says yes to their every wish. In fact, to succeed in politics, it seems the simplest way is to say yes to every voter's request; dont worry, they usually forget it after four weeks; but no no no Mr. Clegg, pledges arent easily forgotten like that.

Making pledges and thinking that the students will forget must be the greatest mistake. They would have forgotten if it was a mere promise and the unappreciated political rhetoric; but the Lib Dems toyed with the minds of those young people just to acquire their votes.

But not, the day of reckoning has arrived. Nick Clegg and his team do not have any merit to now give excuses. In fact, as a pledge, they should keep it regardless of what... Failure to and abstaining from the vote would be a double opportunism and betrayal. For something they believed, promised, committed to and propagated on for personal gains, it is an affront and a double sell-out if they should sit on the fence at the time of implementation.

Liberal Democrats MPs should not abstain from the vote but stand up for what they believed, were voted in and pledged their heart to achieving or simply declare they do not believe on it any longer.

It will be a shame if top politicians like Vince Cable do indeed abstain from that vote; and backbench Lib Dem's MPs will have this as their one opportunity to stand out and defend the supposed principles of the Liberal Democrat now more than ever. Standing up for what is fair, right, and above all, for their integrity and for their party, would go a long way to vindicate them now and ever.

If they abstain, David Cameron should watch out that he and the Conservatives may not trust or rely on their Liberal Democrats counterparts in the Cabinet. And this will expose the opportunism in the Lib Dems as a party of men and women who only want to pretend to be good not because they believe in it.

The UK Time Concern... How About 45 Minutes Per Hour?

No comments: Links to this post

Last night or the one before in the parliament, MPs spent an enormous amount of time right into the last hours of the day debating (or should I say, arguing) about a change in the Clock shift in UK.

The debate, sponsored by a Scottish MP argues that Scotland will stand to lose, et cetera; I don’t see how. Another MP, from England refused to accept and dismissed the Scottish proposal as gibberish. But the minister of state maintained a peaceful arbitrariness without taking sides even with his one party member.

Instead, he encouraged the Scottish MP to go back and bring factual data, or whatever possible – I suppose he meant, the minister was asking him to bring daylight and darkness to the House; nonsense.

Lets Talk Tuition Fees; Not Hiding Behind Blame Of Violence

No comments: Links to this post

President of the National Union of Students, Aaron Porter told the BBC he condemns the violence and added, "This was not part of our plan."

Obviously, Mr. Porter would not accept responsibility for the maddening horror that ensued on Wednesday when his colleagues got overly frustrated and burst into an Armageddon destroying the Conservatives' party Head Quarter building. It was an appalling site, one that should not be seen amongst civilised people but yet, one that is inevitable for the fear of the unknown morrow.

Regardless, it is irresponsible for the authorities, police and politicians alike to claim that they didnt see such arrant violence coming; that is the most coward response anyone can give. In fact, to call a spade a spade, this appears to me to be the 'Starter' for the meal "we are all in..." together.

Watching MPs in the Commons stand to accuse the students outburst is not just disgraceful, it is an evasion of their responsibility. MPs should rather focus on finding a solution to the main issue: outrageous increase in tuition fee.

The violence, is surely a result of the frustration many [poor] students faces considering that a tuition fee of £9,000 is nearly as unaffordable as wanting to move into a palatial house in Chelsea from a hostel without winning the lottery.

The government must not hide under the blame of violence and shy away from the real issue. Tripling tuition fee in one swoop is nothing but wicked and a way to entrench poverty. Majority of students who will pay this atrocious amount will end up in unbreakable chain of poverty as they graduate with over £30,000 in debt.

The government is also playing a very slippery game by telling the society that those who dont earn over £21,000 will not pay back; in essence, it means that such people will have a growing debt hanging over their head for longer and thus may never get out of it and so, may never become anything like raising a mortgage.

On another hand, in 5 years time when the first of these students will be graduating, it would be unexpected to think that graduates would still be earning as little as £21k minimum... then that tells us that this government has a stifling plan for the economy.

So it is not surprising that the government is now avoiding talking about the cause of the problem but rather hiding behind condemning violence. That is cowardice, that is irresponsible, that, is unacceptable and will only brew more violence and rage in no time.

Remembrance Day

During the Remembrance period 2010, a few tourists in central London stopped me to ask ‘what is this thing’ – pointing at the Poppy on my chest – ‘and why is everybody wearing them?’

It is amazing that the amount of people who join in the Remembrance Day period is so much as to make an impact. It is indeed great to see something that unites a country in such a humble manner; for this once in a year, regardless of class differences or other factors, a lot of people join in one dedication and submission to remembering those whose life has been shortened to keep the country we now enjoys.

The tourists got the news and were full of admiration for it. One said to me, “it is just wonderful, it makes me think everybody here is in love... this is very beautiful”; she is Spanish or from a Spanish country.  And yes, it is the sign of love.

As the actual day was celebrated yesterday, 11th November, this is written as a reflection on the impact those tiny little two-petal red flowers achieves. Like The Royal British Legion motto says, “shoulder to shoulder with all who serve”.

The Election Frauds

No comments: Links to this post
Just six months ago, Nick Clegg and David Cameron came to the doorstep of No 10 on the votes of many whom they apparently seem now to have duped. We saw the whole drama unfold and new that those promises were made on the basis of telling people exactly what they want to hear. Now is the harvest and the fruits arent getting any letter sour.

Deputy PM, Nick Clegg(far right) signs tuition fee pledg
The entire students that used their votes like free drink vouchers are now beginning to see that the night is still very young. By the time the show really kicks in, they will not just realize that they have spent all their vouchers, but that they are thrown out by a new door-man who doesnt recognise them.

I am sorry to hear of their predicaments and wish time can be rewinded; just for their sakes.

After today's damage of the Conservatives' Headquarters, it appears there is a long and terribly dangerous stretch ahead.

Let us pray....

Stonewall Made A U-Turn; At Least They Realised

No comments: Links to this post
The U-turn by Stonewall on the issue of marriage equality is a remarkable one. Considering their stance just a month ago, you would begin to know that they have come under unexpected fire and must have realised how isolated they were on the path they initially chose to tow.

And that would have been obvious even to a damn fool. When even their founders criticised their refusal to back marriage equality. And from every perspective, that singular decision simply defeats all other purpose Stonewall ever works for or have aspired. For an organisation that has been seen to as a flag, bearer in the cause of fighting for the LGBT community (although it does not singularly represent that community), it was shameful and would have nailed its
