While I was at a conference, someone sitting next to me who had just arrived whishpered, "Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize". It was like hearing a voice; because, for one, I don't know her; 2, this doesn't sound real. I turned to my left and looked at her trying to find the joke in her face, but she understood my daze and repeated it. My response:
Funny isn't it? From that point, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the internet to verify this 'true-lie'. But lo and behold, once I did, she was right; President Barack Obama of the United States of America is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Unbelievable!
While I think it is not Obama's fault – because this is purely a mistake – I am of a strong opinion that he do not deserve that prize yet. He is without doubt, a good guy; but com'on, to be realistic, what concrete reason is this for? This calls to question the judgemental ability of the team who decided this.
The men and women fighting in warfronts each deserve that prize more than Obama. The many volunteers who put their lives in the line leaving good jobs, peaceful countries, loving families, friends and the comfort of their wealth or none; these are the people who deserve this prize. There is no reason why Obama should have it. He may have it in the future, but this is too quick a judgement and nothing different from the banking world system of bonus which everyone is against.
But this is the evidence of the mad idiosyncrasy of the worship of fame and materialism which is gripping the world and which is making it even more crippled.
